Investing in the Next Generation of Engineers

We understand that we need to invest in the future of our business, by developing the best talent in the building services industry.

There are two ways that we believe in doing this.  We offer university placements within the company to help our selected candidates gain industry experience before graduating.  We also offer the chance for our current team members to attend college/university courses as part of their structured career development and to supplement NOVO’s in-house training programme.

Placements

We currently have Jacob Kay working with us on a year’s placement. He is assisting the Mechanical Services team with all aspects of the design process.  Jacob is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the Sheffield Hallam University on an M-Eng course.  We are in regular contact with the University with progress updates.  Jacob is currently spending his 3rd year with us, finishing on the 1st July 2017.  He’ll then head back to university at the beginning of September to complete his final 2 years.

Jacob is gaining some valuable experience working at NOVO and we hope that he successfully continues down his preferred career path.

Part-time Courses

We currently have two members of staff (Jacob Allister & Daniel Chadwick) who are working towards their Building Services Engineering Level 3 BTEC Diploma at the Leeds College of Building.  They will both be attending college once a week, so the office is a slightly quieter place on a Monday.  Jacob is due to finish his course in two years & Daniel in a year.

Even though each of them comes from different backgrounds, one which has been on site and the other straight from college, both are progressing towards further qualifications.

Jacob Allister, who is 17 years of age, is using this opportunity to gain an understanding in building services to help with his role as a Junior CAD Engineer in the CAD department.  The knowledge he is acquiring from partaking in this course and from in-house mentoring is invaluable from a from a CAD and Engineering learning perspective.

Daniel Chadwick, who is 26 years of age, has come from an on-site construction background working as an electrician.  Daniel is progressing through a one-year college course before going on to do his HNC, and then degree within building services to contribute to his role as an Electrical Engineer within NOVO.

Whether it’s our core discipline or other areas within the business, NOVO wants to help develop our staff to the best of their abilities and to achieve their overall career aspirations.
