National Apprenticeship Week 2018

Updated: Feb 1, 2019

To mark National Apprenticeship Week 2018, we are sharing the stories of our three successful and dedicated apprentices: Jamie, Jake & Dan.

Daniel Chadwick – Level 5 Apprentice

Dan commenced his career after leaving school in 2006 by taking on an apprentice role and attending Huddersfield Technical College, earning an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation.

After working a decade as an electrical contractor, he made the move from site to office in order to progress towards his aspirations of becoming a Chartered Electrical Engineer. He joined NOVO in 2016 as our Project Engineer and has since completed his BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Building Services, with our support every step of the way.

Now Dan is even closer to completing his degree and achieving his goals, attending the Leeds Building College each week to study towards his Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Building Services.

“My role at NOVO has made me realise how invaluable my experience as an electrician has been. I can take that knowledge into my designs and understand what will work and what won’t. I’m thriving – every day is a new challenge and I am constantly striving to be a better engineer.”

Jacob Allister – Level 3 Apprentice

Jake also joined NOVO in 2016, initially on a work experience programme organised by his school. However, this soon progressed into full-time employment within our CAD department.

In order to develop his existing skills and allow him to grow as a valuable asset to the organisation, NOVO enrolled Jake on a two-year BTEC Diploma course at Leeds Building College, studying Building Services Engineering. As the second year is drawing to a close, Jake’s opportunities are broadening, and it will soon be time for him to progress onto the next level, where he will be able to decide where to focus his studies and develop an expertise.

“Being knowledgeable in building services allows me to understand what I’m drawing better, improving rate at which I work. The day release course gives me insight into the process and leaves me with the qualification wherever I decide to finish.”

Jamie Hudson – Level 5 Apprentice

Prior to joining NOVO in 2017, Jamie began his path to becoming a Chartered Building Services Engineer by studying Mechanical Engineering at Leeds City College. He achieved his BTEC Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering during his two years of study.

This provided him with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to join the team as our Junior Mechanical Engineer.

Jamie continues his study, now with the support of NOVO, attending college with Dan on a weekly basis with intent to complete his Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Building Services Engineering and achieve his long-term goals of chartered status.

“Training with NOVO has helped further my career into Building Services.”
